Who is today's Van Gogh?

Times have really changed, and some of us yearn to own a piece of originality. Take a look at the classical paintings of the yesteryears, like Rembrandt or Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer which depict instances of ancient history. In art school we study various artists and their ways of depicting an image... in a sense we learn from their styles and later develop our own. We have learned to admire and stare into the world of a classical painting, but what about today's art? and today's medium?
